  12.  AB    We used PUVA therapy in a patient with crisis-type adult T-cell
  13.        leukaemia/lymphoma and generalized cutaneous leukaemic cell
  14.        infiltration. PUVA proved very effective in reducing leukaemic cells and
  15.        in clearing the eruption. To understand the way in which PUVA produced a
  16.        reduction in the number of leukaemic cells, we examined peripheral blood
  17.        cells by light and electron microscopy. Light microscopy was of little
  18.        help, but electron microscopy revealed that PUVA induced apoptosis-like
  19.        changes in circulating leukaemic cells. This suggests that
  20.        apoptosis-like changes in leukaemic cells might be the reason for the
  21.        success of this treatment.
